Network Social Responsibility The Austrian Network Social Responsibility is a coalition of NGOs (human rights, anti-discrimination, environment, development cooperation, etc.) as well as organizations representing employee´s interests (trade unions, works councils), representing a civil society resp. stakeholder perspective on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).The Network is an information and communication platform. It promotes practical as well as academic discussions and the exchange of experiences and research results among its members. With regard to the economy and the public it focuses on awareness raising for the issue of CSR and voices opinions and demands of relevant stakeholders in the CSR-process. The Network wants to develop and coordinate CSR-projects geared at the implementation and promotion of the Networks’ goals. Furthermore, it supports, accompanies and organizes the monitoring of CSR activities of companies and organizations representing their interests. It also contributes to developing obligatory legal standards in areas relevant for CSR and points out enterprises not complying with their corporate social responsibility. The Network sees CSR as an integrated management strategy, which means that CSR has to become an integral value of the organizational culture. It is not possible to focus on CSR in just one department or area and neglect social and corporate responsibility in other areas. Such a holistic approach also includes all elements of the supply chain. CSR is seen as going beyond compliance with national or international minimum standards in the areas of workers’ rights, human rights, social rights, ecological rights and equal opportunities. The Network represents the relevant stakeholders’ interests in choosing, implementing and monitoring CSR-processes. Monitoring is only considered effective when it involves relevant stakeholders as well as effective mechanisms of control such as social audits or reviewing reports by independent bodies and comprehensive and transparent information of the public. Members with a right to vote are NGOs and organizations representing employee´s interests. The Austrian Ministry for Social Affairs and Consumer Protection, the Austrian research Institute IFES as well as individual persons interested in CSR are affiliated to the Network.
